1. Do I need to attend a volunteer orientation prior the actual event?

Yes, All volunteers are required to attend one of the following volunteer orientations:

• Thursday, October 5^th 6:00pm ESNP visitor center
• Saturday, October 7^th 10:00 AM at ESNP
• Saturday, October 7^th 2:00pm
• Location: ESNP Maintenance Shop

This orientation will prepare volunteers for their duties. We will give specific information on how the event will run and what will be expected of Haunted Trail volunteers.

2. What time do participating volunteers need to arrive at the Haunted Trails?

Arrival time for participating volunteers is 5:00 PM on each night you are scheduled to volunteer.

This set arrival time is to allow participants to sign in, receive assignments/instructions, place the actor on the trail and educate them on their surroundings. Haunted Trails volunteers will be in a wooded environment along the trail during this event.

3. Why is your arrival time two hours prior to gates opening?

We must set arrival time in order to sign-in all participants, give them their assignments/instructions, and also place the actor and educate them on their surroundings (Haunted trail volunteers will be in a wooded environment).

4. What is the time participating volunteers can expect to be done?

The gate and ticket sales end at 9:15 PM.  Volunteers will be expected to stay till the last customer has gone through the trail. End times will vary based on attendance. Please plan to leave between 10:30 PM and 12:00 AM.

If an actor must leave early, they must inform the Park Superintendent BEFORE they are assigned an acting spot for the evening. If the Park Superintendent is not informed prior to assignment the volunteer must stay till the end of the event. 

5. What is your policy on cell phone usage?

We do not permit the usage of cell phones and other mobile communication devices during volunteer times. All cell phones,etc. must be turned Off (Not on vibrate or silent mode). If there is an issue that a cell phone must remain on during participation, please notify the Park Superintendent prior to participation.

6. How old must participants be to volunteer?

All volunteers must be 13 years old or older to volunteer on the haunted trail, as face painters, make-up artists, and walking stick decorator assistants.  All parking attendants and inflatable attendants must be 17 years old or older.  All student volunteers under the age of 18 years old must have a Haunted Trails Minor Waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian before volunteering. No exceptions.

7. What should participating volunteers wear?

Trail actors can dress in any costume or makeup of their own choice, unless given a specific assignment. Please dress to the season and WEAR LAYERS!! If you get hot you can always take a layer off, but if you get cold, you will be cold all night. Closed toe shoes are highly recommended.  Parking attendants will be provided a safety vest and flashlight for use during the event. 

A costume is necessary if you are to be seen by the public on either trail.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to select an area or scene during the volunteer orientation.  Areas/Scenes are assigned on a first come first serve basis. 

8. What if a participating volunteer is injured?

Upon injury, the Park Superintendent will be notified and an incident report will be completed. If the participating volunteer is under the age of 18, the parents or legal guardian of the person injured will be notified.   Ambulance services are on site and available for any serious injury. Park Rangers are on staff at this event and will assist in any incident.

9. How do participating volunteers receive their community service forms?

Upon completion of this event, volunteers must contact the volunteer coordinator. The volunteer will be given a personalized form detailing their volunteer service. This form will serve as verification of community service.

10. What happens if a participating volunteer disobeys one of the rules?

Any infraction of the rules will cause immediate disqualification of the participating volunteer. Rules are set in place for the safety of our volunteers and our patrons. In most cases, the volunteer will be taken to the maintenance shop for the remainder of the night at which that point the volunteer will be asked to leave the property.  No volunteer hours will be granted for rule infractions.

11. What issues should volunteers be aware of?

We do use disorienting lights (strobes, etc.), which could induce a seizure. We also use fog, which could induce an asthma attack, and have confined spaces which could cause a claustrophobic episode. Please make your volunteers aware of these issues.

14. When is the event?

Friday, October 13th and Saturday, October 14th 

15. How late can I show up?

It takes about 15-30 minutes to get into our parking lot and take the shuttle to festival area. 

The Halloween event is open till the last person is scared. However the ticket booth closes promptly at 10pm. Please try to arrive in the parking lot no later than 9:30 pm.

16. If it is raining or bad weather?

Inclement Weather:  Event will be held snow, rain, or shine. However, it may be cancelled or postponed due to severe weather. Check this webpage for current information or call 423-209-5350.

17. How much does it cost?

• $10.00 13 years old and up
• $5.00 12 -4 years 
• Free 3 years and under 
• The admission price includes a hayride, 2 haunted trails, trick or treat trail, Halloween music light show, kids festival area to include bounce house and face painting.
• Food Vendors require an additional fee.  
• No refunds

18. Do I still need to pay even though I am not going through the Haunted Trail or Too Cute Too Spook Trail or Treat Trail?

Yes

19. Do you accept credit cards or ATM cards?

Yes

Note: There are no refunds once a ticket has been purchased.

20. What should I wear?

• Please check the weather forecast before coming to the park. The weather can vary greatly in this region day by day and even from the afternoon to the evening.
• Our haunted trails travel across natural surface terrain. Please wear sensible footwear. Open toed shoes are not allowed. We are not responsible for any damage to clothing due to rips / tears / stains or from falling while on the trail.
• Costumes are not allowed for guests over 12 years of age who are going through the haunted trails. For costumes make sure they are short enough that your child does not trip when walking.
• Guests may not carry any hand held items on the trails.

21. Are costumes allowed?

• We encourage costumes for the little kids who are going through the trick or treat trail and for our guests 12 years or younger.
• Costumes are not allowed for guests over 12 years of age who are going through the haunted trails.
• What is strictly prohibited on the haunted trails for guests over 12 years of age: Any Masks, Any Makeup on the Face or Any Full Length costumes

22. How scary is the haunted trails?

• Very Scary - We work hard to scare you as much as possible. 
• We strongly recommend parental discretion for kids under 13 years of age.

23. Can kids go through the haunted trails?

• We strongly recommend parental discretion for kids under 13 years of age for the Haunted Trail.  
• Kids must be able to walk the entire attraction. This is for your and their safety.
• Strollers are absolutely prohibited on the haunted trail. They are allowed in the Too Cute to Spook trick or treat area.

24. Is it safe?

• Our event is very safe. We take every safety precaution to ensure that the attractions are safe for our guests and our staff.
• The haunted attractions are inspected and monitored by the Park Rangers and our staff.

25. Will the actors touch me?

• Our actors are here to scare you, not to touch you. 
• Due to the small spaces an actor may accidently brush up against you or bump you slightly. If you have any concerns please bring it up to our staff. 
• Do not touch our actors or you will be removed from the attraction without refund. We have Rangers present during our event at all times.

26. Are there refunds offered?

• There are no refunds once a ticket has been purchased.

27. Are there strobe lights and fog machines?

• Yes, there will be strobe lights and fog machines.   

28. Is the haunted trail wheelchair accessible?

• Due to the terrain, it is very difficult for wheelchairs to maneuver through this outdoor event.  If you choose to participate on the haunted trail be aware the pathways are dirt and mulch and they may be uneven as they wind through the park.

29. Is Too Cute Too Spook Trick or Treat Trail wheelchair accessible?

• Yes-the trail is located on a flat paved road.  

30. Does the event have security?

• Yes, we do have Park Rangers for security.

31. Can we be thrown out of the Trail for any reason?

• Yes. We do not allow foul language, pushing, vulgar behavior, weapons of any kind, alcohol, etc. Smoking and alcohol are not allowed. We reserve the right to remove any patron from the event if we feel it is necessary.
• Violation of these rules will usually bring a warning and then being asked to leave without a refund.

32. Is smoking allowed?

• NO!!! Smoking is prohibited at Enterprise South Nature Park. 

33. Do you sell beverages and snacks during the event?

• Yes- A food vendor will be onsite.
