This orientation will prepare volunteers for their duties. We will give specific information on how the event will run and what will be expected of Haunted Trail volunteers.

Arrival time for participating volunteers is 5:00 PM on each night you are scheduled to volunteer.
This set arrival time is to allow participants to sign in, receive assignments/instructions, place the actor on the trail and educate them on their surroundings. Haunted Trails volunteers will be in a wooded environment along the trail during this event.
We must set arrival time in order to sign-in all participants, give them their assignments/instructions, and also place the actor and educate them on their surroundings (Haunted trail volunteers will be in a wooded environment).
The gate and ticket sales end at 9:15 PM. Volunteers will be expected to stay till the last customer has gone through the trail. End times will vary based on attendance. Please plan to leave between 10:30 PM and 12:00 AM.
If an actor must leave early, they must inform the Park Superintendent BEFORE they are assigned an acting spot for the evening. If the Park Superintendent is not informed prior to assignment the volunteer must stay till the end of the event.
We do not permit the usage of cell phones and other mobile communication devices during volunteer times. All cell phones,etc. must be turned Off (Not on vibrate or silent mode). If there is an issue that a cell phone must remain on during participation, please notify the Park Superintendent prior to participation.
All volunteers must be 13 years old or older to volunteer on the haunted trail, as face painters, make-up artists, and walking stick decorator assistants. All parking attendants and inflatable attendants must be 17 years old or older. All student volunteers under the age of 18 years old must have a Haunted Trails Minor Waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian before volunteering. No exceptions.
Trail actors can dress in any costume or makeup of their own choice, unless given a specific assignment. Please dress to the season and WEAR LAYERS!! If you get hot you can always take a layer off, but if you get cold, you will be cold all night. Closed toe shoes are highly recommended. Parking attendants will be provided a safety vest and flashlight for use during the event.
A costume is necessary if you are to be seen by the public on either trail.
Volunteers will have an opportunity to select an area or scene during the volunteer orientation. Areas/Scenes are assigned on a first come first serve basis.
Upon injury, the Park Superintendent will be notified and an incident report will be completed. If the participating volunteer is under the age of 18, the parents or legal guardian of the person injured will be notified. Ambulance services are on site and available for any serious injury. Park Rangers are on staff at this event and will assist in any incident.
Upon completion of this event, volunteers must contact the volunteer coordinator. The volunteer will be given a personalized form detailing their volunteer service. This form will serve as verification of community service.
Any infraction of the rules will cause immediate disqualification of the participating volunteer. Rules are set in place for the safety of our volunteers and our patrons. In most cases, the volunteer will be taken to the maintenance shop for the remainder of the night at which that point the volunteer will be asked to leave the property. No volunteer hours will be granted for rule infractions.
We do use disorienting lights (strobes, etc.), which could induce a seizure. We also use fog, which could induce an asthma attack, and have confined spaces which could cause a claustrophobic episode. Please make your volunteers aware of these issues.

It takes about 15-30 minutes to get into our parking lot and take the shuttle to festival area.
The Halloween event is open till the last person is scared. However the ticket booth closes promptly at 10pm. Please try to arrive in the parking lot no later than 9:30 pm.
Inclement Weather: Event will be held snow, rain, or shine. However, it may be cancelled or postponed due to severe weather. Check this webpage for current information or call 423-209-5350.
